Scholarship Spotlight: Megan Sowada

The goal of the Holdingford Scholarship Endowment (HSE) is to eventually give every graduate a scholarship to continue their education. But sometimes potential HSE donors ask us, “Can my contribution really make a difference?”

Yes it can, and Megan Sowada (class of 2016) is the proof.

“Every single scholarship dollar helps,” said Megan. “I’m attending St. Catherine University in St Paul, and it’s a private institution and expensive. I really appreciate the scholarship I got from the Holdingford Scholarship Endowment!”

Megan earned an HSE scholarship due to her academic achievements at Holdingford High School, as well as her school and community involvement, which included Student Council, National Honor Society, Peer Helpers, and many other organizations.

Coming from Holdingford, attending college at St. Kate’s has been a bit of a culture shock for Megan – in a very good way. “I’ve grown to love it and it’s changed me for the better. I’m learning to be an advocate for myself and others, and St. Kate’s is shaping me to be strong and independent.”

That advocacy extends to Megan’s major: American Sign Language interpretation. “I’d planned to study American Sign Language since before my senior year of high school, so I’m excited to be pursuing something I love.”
