Holdingford Scholarship Endowment Fund Supports Record Number of Students

Community-led endowment gives scholarship to 26 high school graduates

Holdingford, Minn. (June 7, 2021) – The Holdingford Scholarship Endowment Fund announced that it has awarded 26 Holdingford High School seniors $500 scholarships for their continued education. This is nearly twice as many scholarships as HSEF awarded in 2020. Nathan Sowada, a scholarship recipient, was also awarded a new $1,000 scholarship endowed by the Lane family for a student pursuing a career in the trades. 

Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s school and community involvement, leadership skills, and post-secondary education plans. The graduates and their post-secondary schools are:

“Even during an unusual fundraising year like 2020, generous community members and alums supported our seniors,” said Kelly Boeckermann, chair of the HSEF board. “Scholarship recipients tell us they’re grateful for these scholarships that allow them to focus on school and worry less about student loans. We’re thrilled to award more scholarships than ever before.”

The Holdingford Scholarship Endowment aims to eventually award every qualified graduate with a scholarship for their future education. Led by a board of dedicated community members and Holdingford High School alumni, the Endowment raises funds and pays out a portion of the invested funds in scholarships each year.

Annual Golf Tournament Raises Record Amount for Holdingford Scholarship Endowment Fund

Tournament supports effort to give every Holdingford graduate a scholarship for continued education.

Holdingford, Minn. (Sept. 15, 2020) – The Holdingford Scholarship Endowment Fund (HSEF) announced that a record number of golfers participated in its golf tournament fundraiser, and a record $8,500 was raised for HSEF, which aims to give every qualified Holdingford high school graduate a scholarship to further their education. The golf tournament was sponsored by Holdingford-based Two Rivers Enterprises, a fabricator of high-quality commercial, industrial and wholesale equipment.

The annual Holdingford Endowment Golf Outing was held August 17 at the Albany Golf Club and attracted teams from across Central Minnesota for a day of fun. The first place winners were Tim Bergeson, Curt McIlravy, Cassie Roberts, Dale Radueg and Adam Jasmer.

Hole sponsors were Midwest Rubber, Central McGowan, TW Metals, Central Minnesota Credit Union, Jim’s Snowmobile and Marine, ISC/SEW, Marco and the Blattner Family Foundation. Additional donors include Holdingford Gas & Grocery, My Salon, Berscheid Builders, Heart & Sol, K&S Pharmacy, Bernick’s, BOHO, Casey’s General Store, Interstate Bearing, Kwik Trip, Scheels, Aerotek, Abrasives Incorporated, Northwoods Electrical, Intralox and Liebovich Steel & Aluminum.

Holdingford Scholarship Endowment Awards Graduating Seniors

Community-led endowment supports high school graduates’ post-secondary aspirations

“It was a tough end of the year for a lot of our graduating seniors because of COVID-19, so we’re happy to support their education goals with these scholarships,” said Kelly Boeckermann,  chair of the Holdingford Scholarship Endowment advisory board. “We’re grateful for the generous support of the community, area businesses and the Holdingford alumni that have allowed us to consistently make these awards for the past seven years.”

**NOTE: Because of COVID-19, students may email the scholarship application to Deb.Ruszat@isd738.org or mail it to her at PO Box 250 Holdingford, MN 56340. The deadline is April 19th to allow for mail time.**

We are now accepting applications for our 2020 round of Holdingford Endowment scholarships! Any 2020 Holdingford graduate may apply.

Important things to remember…

  • Fill out the form completely. Answers must be typed, not hand written!
  • Scholarships are awarded based on your extra-curricular activities, jobs (paid employment), volunteer activities, and the quality of your essay.
  • Last year we had more scholarships to give away than the number of students who applied. Don’t leave money on the table!

Holdingford Scholarship Endowment Announces New Advisory Board Chair

Kelly Boeckermann of Holdingford is elected chair

Holdingford, Minn. (January 6, 2020) – The Holdingford Scholarship Endowment announced that Kelly Boeckermann of Holdingford has been elected to chair its advisory board. She replaces Bob Warzecha, a founding member of the Holdingford Scholarship Endowment and its first board chair.

A member of the Holdingford community for 14 years and a professional radiologic technologist, Kelly is excited to lead the board on its mission to provide every graduating senior with a scholarship to pursue their post-secondary education. “I first joined the board as a way give back to the community, and to take the opportunity to learn and grow,” said Boeckermann. “Our goals in 2020 include continuing to raise funds to support scholarships for our graduating seniors, as well as to give individuals the opportunity to create a scholarship in a loved one’s name through the Holdingford Scholarship Endowment. Another goal is to increase the number of seniors who apply for the scholarship.”

The board also approved the term extensions of Bob Warzecha and Margaret Vos; both will serve another three-year term. Mike Higgins, a founding member of the Holdingford Scholarship Endowment, and Chuck Doucet completed their terms as board members. “Mike and Chuck have been dedicated and involved members of our board,” said Boeckermann. “We are grateful for their service and know they will continue to support and be involved with us as they can. Their commitment to our youth has had a huge impact on our community.”
